Mt.Obasute (also called “Ubasute”) located south-eastern edge of the Nagano-Basin.
The common name of the mountain is Mt.Kamuriki meanings “adjust a crown”.
The meanings of Obasute is "abandoningan old woman".
Because there is the folklore that poor framer son carries his mother and leaves her in the mountain in order to reducing the mouths to feed.
During the journey, she stretches out her arms, catching the twigs and scattering them on the route, so that her son will be able to back home.
He is really moved by his mother’s kindness,then he brings her back to the home.
There is JR Obasute station halfway up the mountain.
Standing on the platform, you can watch theover looking of Nagano-Basin where ordinally called “Zenko-ji Daira”, including ancient battlefield Kawanakajima.
You can also see the vast terraced rice fields of about 1,500 paddy fields on a 25-hectare wide slope under your eyes.
This place is known for the historic terraced rice fields and poems written about 400 years ago depict the scenery of the bright moon reflected on the surface of the rice fields filled with water.
You can go down the slope over and over by using folding bike and train.
